A tight festive period schedule has led to numerous injuries in some Premier League sides. This was especially evident on New Year’s Day, when seven top-tier clubs run out of important players. Brighton’s defender Dan Burn could be out for two months with a fractured collarbone. Watford’s Kiko Femenia was forced from the field during 2-1 victory against Wolves. Aston Villa’s Tom Heaton and Wesley suffered knee injuries and they may be set for significant spells on the sidelines. Everton’s Bernard suffered a knee injury in the warm-up ahead of a trip to Manchester City. Mamadou Sakho was subbed due to a hamstring injury at half-time of the Crystal Palace away game at Norwich. Tottenham star striker Harry Kane sustained a hamstring injury, and Tanguy Ndombele limped off in the first half of the game against Southampton. On the end, the greatest losses sustained Newcastle, who was left without four players: Javier Manquillo, Jonjo Shelvey, Fabian Schar and Jetro Willems.
With those four injuries Newcastle United are facing a major crisis ahead of the FA Cup game against League One side Rochdale, on Saturday 4th January. Here is the current status of injured players:
– Javier Manquillo (11 games played this term/ 0 goals), defender, hamstring injury, surely ruled out of FA Cup clash.
– Jetro Willems (17/2), defender, groin strain, to be evaluated, Rochdale will be too soon him.
– Fabian Schar (15/2), defender, hamstring injury, unknown status.
– Jonjo Shelvey (14/5), midfielder, teams top scorer, unlikely to be fit for Rochdale.
– DeAndre Yedlin (11/1), defender, possible broken hand, status uncertain.

– Allan Saint-Maximin (12/1 m), forward, hamstring injury, out of the clash with Rochdale.
– Jamaal Lascelles (12/1), skipper, fractured tibia, Rochdale could be too soon for him.
Newcastle United have only one league win in the last five rounds, and after Rochdale, during January have Premier League meetings with Wolverhampton (away), Chelsea (home) and Everton (away).
