Merseyside derby preview: Liverpool – Everton

The Merseyside derby. Two major clubs from Liverpool. The longest-running top-tier derby in England. The rivalry with more red cards than any other clash. This Sunday afternoon, in the third FA Cup round, Liverpool and Everton play their 235. mutual match.
As for tradition, the Reds have won 94 meetings in all competitions, the Toffees have celebrated 66 times, with 74 draws. Liverpool is more successful in Premier League also, with 24 wins, 22 draws and 9 losses.
However, Everton is without a win in the Merseyside derby since 17th October 2010, since it was played 20 games between city rivals, with Liverpool 10 wins and draws each.
No need to comment on Liverpool performance this season. The Reds are inviolable in the Premier League, with 19 wins, a single draw and without a loss, with a goal difference 49:14. Before Sunday’s game they have 11 straight top-tier duels. At the start of December Everton was humiliated in the Merseyside derby (2:5), after which Marco Silva was sacked, and Everton is led firstly by caretaker boss Duncan Ferguson and now permanent manager Carlo Ancelotti. Regarding absences, there are no injured Naby Keita (5/1 m), Xherdan Shaqiri (5/1 m), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (12/1 m), Dejan Lovren (8/0 d), Joel Matip (7/1 d), Nathaniel Clyne (0/0 d) and Fabinho (12/1 m) in the host’s squad, and Everton is without Alex Iwobi (16/1 m), Andre Gomes (8/0 m), Jean-Philippe Gbamin (2/0 m) due to injuries, with uncertain status of Bernard (12/2 m) and Fabian Delph (11/0 m).
