Premier League Outright Odds After Ronaldo’s Arrival

Premier League Outright Odds After Ronaldo’s Arrival

Cristiano Ronaldo is back in the Premiership. After weeks of speculation, Ronaldo decided to wear red again instead of playing for Guardiola.

To those that follow his career closely, the decision wasn’t surprising at all. Cristiano has made clear statements that indicate how his choices are often related to emotion and attachment instead of pure desire for money.

In terms of trying to win the Champions League once again, perhaps the easiest path in the UK would have been to sign a contract with Manchester City. The same applies to the English Premier League

Let’s take a look at how the gambling markets are interpreting the chances of Manchester United and Cristiano Ronaldo winning the EPL once again in the 2021-2022 season.

English Premier League: Outright Market odds after Ronaldo’s Return

At the moment, the market doesn’t see Man Utd as very likely to win the EPL. In fact, 3 teams are seen as more likely to lift another EPL trophy: Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea.

At the moment, the average odds for Manchester City to win the 2021-2022 trophy are 2.25, followed by Chelsea with 3.67 and Liverpool with 5.13.

The average odds for Manchester United to win the Premiership once again are 5.83 as of now.

It’s been a while since a squad containing CR7 was considered just the 4th best team in action in any domestic tournament.

Manchester United and Cristiano Ronaldo: rebuilding a team

Traditionally, the English press considered that Sir Alex Ferguson has had 4 teams along with his impressive and legendary spell as Man Utd’s manager.

He left the club when they needed to put together a new team, he always said he had left good players in the squad that he believed would be good foundations for an upcoming team, like Nani when he was young, but history has proved that the succession after Sir Alex’s reign was very hard.

Manchester United never had the same protagonism as they had under Sir Alex in his final seasons.

The fact that the gambling markets still see Man Utd as worse than Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City, even with Ronaldo, proves that some arguments are being taken into consideration by those willing to bet on their opinions

– Manchester United is still lagging behind 3 teams

– A team needs to be built around Ronaldo, his arrival doesn’t change much immediately

– There are doubts whether Ronaldo will be a game-changer as a 36-year-old athlete

– The fact that Juventus didn’t win one more title in Italy with the star shows that he can’t play alone, he needs support

– His impressive tenure at Real Madrid surely had to do with an amazing defense formed by Varane and Sergio Ramos, and the support of the midfield formed by Kroos, Casemiro and Modric made his life much easier

Summary: The Future of Manchester United with Ronaldo

The Red Devils surely are living a moment of revigorated self-esteem and motivation, but the rational minds of the gambling markets remain kind of skeptical.

Will Ronaldo make that much of a big difference? Time will tell, but for now, CR7 and Man Utd are not the favorites of the markets in the UK and the English Premier League.
