La Liga: Kroos Two Weeks Out

Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos is facing two weeks out after picking up a muscle injury during his side’s 3-2 win over Real Betis.

Kroos started the game but did not make it to half time as he was forced to limp off the field in first-half stoppage time, with Luka Modrić brought on as his replacement.

The German was quickly sent for tests to determine the severity of the injury, and Real took to their official website to confirm that Kroos had suffered an injury to his left gluteus medius.

Real don’t offer any timeframe for Kroos’ recovery, but Marca believe he will miss between ten and 14 days, although that is based on his history of fighting his way back from injuries faster than most players.

He is now expected to miss upcoming games against Real Valladolid and Levante, and the injury may well force him to miss Germany’s meetings with Turkey and Ukraine.

News of this issue will come as a huge blow to Zinedine Zidane, who was close to finally having his squad close to full strength. Only Éder Militão and Mariano were sidelined, but Kroos will now join them on the treatment table.

Fortunately for the boss, he is expecting to welcome back a handful of players. Left-back Marcelo is close to returning from the back injury which kept him out of the Betis clash, while forwards Eden Hazard and Marco Asensio are thought to be ready for competitive action once more.

Real needed an 82nd-minute penalty from Sergio Ramos to get past Betis, who saw Emerson concede an own goal and get sent off in a hectic second half.

It hasn’t been the most convincing start to the season for Zidane’s men, who fell to a 0-0 draw with Real Sociedad in their opening game, but the Frenchman will hope to have his side firing one his injured players return.
